Brent W. McCowan - Director/Producer of film & television, Executive Producer/Creative Director of interactive media and digital art, received his B.A. in communications and visual arts from the University of California. Beginning as a film director in A-list television commercial production, Mr. McCowan had the opportunity to work on many national television-commercial campaigns, including those broadcast on the Super Bowl, with some of the largest and most well-respected advertising agencies in the country. After directing commercials for many years he brought his narrative and cinematography experience to documentary film projects for PBS, The Smithsonian Institution and the Discovery Channel. There he discovered that interactive media could become the domain of compelling, narrative content as well as an information resource. He became enthralled with the idea of creating intuitive, dramatic work in new media and exploring emerging technologies as creative tools. For the next 11 years Mr. McCowan managed Story Worlds, an interactive production company, where he developed and created interactive applications for CD-ROM, DVD, television and the internet, for clients such as The Smithsonian Institution, PBS, Philadelphia Museum of Art, Walt Disney, General Electric, Dow Chemical, The Ritz Carlton Hotel and The MacManus Group. His experience in managing and directing creative and technical teams has brought him around the world and he is a featured writer and guest speaker on several industry-related topics, including emerging technologies for education and the marketplace. He is a member of the Director’s Guild of America, Screen Actors Guild, International Documentary Association and the International Interactive Communications Society, with numerous awards to his credit. He is extremely excited to be serving in public education and is celebrating his third year at HISD.
